The Weekly Word - A Devotion for the Week of July 18
These verses from the Book of Ruth are an example of what love, loyalty and commitment look like. With these words, we hear Ruth’s promise to stay with and support her mother-in-law, Naomi, no matter what – even when that means leaving the familiarity and comfort of her culture and traditions for the unknown. As the story unfolds and Naomi and Ruth leave Moab to reunite with Naomi’s people, we see the Israelites welcome Ruth, the outsider, into their fold. As we read and reflect on this story, we might ask ourselves: is there an “outsider” in our midst who is yearning for love and acceptance? Is there someone whom we might welcome home with open arms? Our God invites all people into communion with Him and receives all people with unconditional love. Let us do the same.
