The Weekly Word - A Devotion for the Week of July 24
We are God’s chosen people.
There may be days when you feel ordinary or like you don’t matter, but this verse reminds us that we are chosen by God and He delights in us. We are transformed from our old selves to new creations. The verse says He called us out of darkness into the light, showing that our lives without Christ have died, and we can now walk in His light.
The first step in becoming a Christian is being called. God calls us to Him and invites us to a life in which we get to serve Him and His kingdom, and eventually live eternally with Him in heaven. In the beginning of the verse, it says we are a chosen race, we are called to Him. Our responsibility is to answer His call and to be faithful to Him. This isn’t always an easy task, but we can have peace knowing we are fighting the good fight.
God also chooses us as a holy nation, to live a holy life and model God’s behavior. We are asked to live morally upright and righteous lives, and we do that by living out God’s word. As Christians, we are a part of a unified nation, His nation—dedicated to serving Him and spreading the word of Jesus.
Peter ends the verse by saying, “that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” One way we can praise Jesus is by proclaiming His word and all that He has done in our lives.
He has brought us from the darkness and into the light, and we can be thankful for that today!
