The Weekly Word - A Devotion for the Week of March 27
As it is with most bible verses, it’s important to interpret Deuteronomy 11:14 in the context of verses before and after it to find its true message.
Preceding this verse, God tells us that if you carefully obey the commandments and love the Lord and serve Him with our hearts and souls, He will reward us.
The verse after talks about how faith and belief in God results in prosperous times for man as well as for the animals upon which they depend for their life and livelihood.
No matter the season, God says faith results in economic as well spiritual strength. The rains replenish the land and life grows.
As Genesis 1:26 says “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’”
James 3:7 tells us similarly that “For every species of beasts and birds, of reptiles and creatures of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by the human race.”
As the species with dominion over the Earth, God gives us plentiful opportunities, but these come with responsibility and faith.
