The Weekly Word - A Devotion for the Week of May 1
God sent his son to bring us peace
At the beginning of Romans 5, Paul talks about why walking in faith benefits us as believers and how we get to live in peace with God since we are justified by faith.
In the verses leading up to verse 5, Paul lists the qualities we gain through God’s grace starting in verse 3, “but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope.” Our trials and tribulations help grow our perseverance which can be applied to many aspects of our lives.
God sent his son to bring us peace and hope instead of facing the consequences of sin.
At the end of the first five verses in the chapter, Paul writes, “God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” Christ died for us so that we can be saved and walk freely in His grace. Since God shows us grace in our lives, we can also show those around us grace.
We as believers will experience peace, hope, suffering, and love throughout our walks with the Lord. Even in our suffering and hard times, God makes us stronger, giving us hope and the security of knowing we will live eternally in heaven.
We can rejoice and give thanks knowing we have peace with God!
