Volunteer Spotlight: Kathy Brugman
April is National Volunteer Month and here at The Salvation Army, we are so thankful to our volunteers for all their hard work and effort throughout the year. Without their contributions, we wouldn't be able to continue to help those in need in our communities.
Today we would like to highlight Kathy Brugman, a volunteer for The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County who has loved making an impact through volunteering for multiple programs.
Why did you decide to volunteer at the salvation army?
I started volunteering after my company offered that we could go as a group to help with the Toy Shop. This was when we lived in Green Bay. I enjoyed the experience so much that I started volunteering on my own. After my retirement and move to Milwaukee, I started signing up for more volunteer opportunities.
What events/programs have you volunteered for?
- Coats for Kids
- Prison Toy Program
- Toys Shop Program
- Backpack Program
- Feed the Kids
What is your favorite part about volunteering?
I think my favorite part is feeling like I am with likeminded people who want to help others and do something good in my community. I like meeting new people, both Salvation Army employees and volunteers.
what is your favorite memory/experience volunteering for the salvation army?
I don't really have a favorite memory or experience. I think I just like seeing some of the little ones come in to get a coat or people "shopping" for their kids (pre-pandemic) when they wouldn't be able to afford anything for them.
