Second Disaster Resource Center (DRC) for Flood Relief Opens in Council Bluffs, Iowa
The Salvation Army opened a second Disaster Resource Center (DRC) in Council Bluffs on Monday, April 1. The DRC is located at the Council Bluffs Corps, 714 North 16th St.
Similar to the Omaha DRC at 84th and Center streets, the new DRC in Council Bluffs will primarily serve as a distribution center, where those affected by the recent flooding can pick up flood-relief supplies.
Donations of flood-relief items will also be accepted at the Council Bluffs DRC. Items needed include:
N-95 dust masks
shovels
floor squeegees
long rubber gloves
wader boots
spray bottles
laundry soap
personal hygiene items (deoderant, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, etc.)
box fans
disinfectant
paper towels
50-gallon buckets
work gloves
scrub brushes
cleaning rags
large, heavy-duty garbage bags
first aid kits
school supplies
new, unwrapped bedding
new towels and washcloths
new baby supplies
snack items
paper plates, plastic silverware, napkins
The Council Bluffs DRC’s hours will be as follows:
- Mondays and Thursdays: 9 a.m. - 7 p.m.
- Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
- Saturdays: 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
- Sundays: closed
In addition to Corps staff, a caseworker will be on-site at the Council Bluffs DRC to help with intake and ensure people’s needs are met. As people arrive, they will briefly meet with the caseworker and complete a short intake form before being guided through the flood-relief distribution area to select the items they need. People needing flood-relief items should bring a photo ID with them.
PLEASE NOTE: The Omaha DRC’s operating hours are Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Sundays, 12 noon - 5 p.m. Both the Omaha DRC and the Council Bluffs DRC will remain in operation until further notice.
