The Salvation Army to Distribute Over 250 Box Fans to Help Local Residents "Beat the Heat"
The Salvation Army of Central Indiana is excited to announce a special distribution of more than 250 box fans to families in need thanks to Great Lakes Ace Hardware stores. This initiative comes just in time as summer temperatures continue to rise, providing some relief to those struggling to stay cool.
Fans are currently available for pick up at The Salvation Army Fountain Square Corps Community Center at 1337 Shelby St. in Indianapolis. Anyone is eligible to pick up a fan, free of charge, starting on Wednesday, June 26 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Fans will be distributed daily from this location while supplies last.
The box fans were generously donated by five local Great Lakes Ace Hardware stores through their innovative program, Fan Drive. Over the past month, these Ace Hardware stores invited their customers to round-up their purchases to contribute toward the purchase of box fans for The Salvation Army to distribute. This community-driven effort has resulted in a substantial donation of fans for the community.
“When you don’t have air conditioning, your fan is going to be your best friend,” shared Jameson Harley, General Manager of Great Lakes Ace Hardware Store at 6248 Allisonville Road in Indianapolis. “It’s going to let you feel that cool breeze during the hot summer months that we have ahead of us. We were excited that the community backed us up on this donation.”
The Salvation Army is always busy during the summer months with community programs, but staff are especially excited to offer a new way to also help Central Indiana families in need.
“We are incredibly thankful for Ace Hardware and its customers for this donation,” said Major Mary Thomas, of The Salvation Army’s Fountain Square Corps Community Center. “Having the fans, especially now since temperatures have been in the 90s, are going to help families in need of some cooling.”
