It’s Not Too Late to Make a Year-End Gift to The Salvation Army

Dec 11, 2019

With Christmas just around the corner, now is the perfect time to make a year-end gift to The Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army’s iconic red kettles and cheerful ringing bells are a familiar sight and sound this time of year, but did you know that the gift you give today will help the people most in need in your community all 12 months of the year?

From youth programs that keep kids safe when parents are working, to holiday baskets and food pantries that feed the hungry, to material and utility assistance that helps those struggling to make ends meet, your gift will make a meaningful difference to those in your community who are most in need.

You can make an online donation or mail a check to your local Salvation Army. Or, if you prefer, you might consider one of these non-cash gifts:

  • A Gift of Appreciated Stock – When you itemize, you’ll receive an income tax charitable deduction for the full fair market value of the shares, and you’ll avoid capital gains tax on the appreciation (even when the gain has never been taxed).

  • An IRA Charitable Rollover – If you are 70 ½ or older, the IRA Charitable Rollover (or qualified charitable distribution) allows you to make a charitable gift and satisfy your annual required minimum distribution without paying taxes.

  • A Charitable Gift Annuity – In exchange for your gift, you’ll earn income and benefit from immediate tax savings.

Please don’t hesitate to contact Linda Garbina, our divisional director of planned giving, with any questions you might have about year-end giving. You can email Linda at Linda.Garbina@usc.salvationarmy.org or call her directly at 402-898-5913.

Thank you for considering a year-end gift to The Salvation Army. May God’s blessings be with you and your loved ones this holiday season.
