If God is for us, who can be against us?

-- Romans 8:31

The car won’t start. The washing machine broke again. Your toddler threw a tantrum, your spouse picked a fight, and your boss gave you a bad review at work.

Some days feel like an uphill climb from the moment our feet hit the floor in the morning until we finally slide back under the covers at night. Sometimes it really can feel like the whole world is against us.

It’s easy to lose sight of the big picture, especially when we are distracted by the burdens, inconveniences and disappointments that are often part of everyday life. But the truth is, we are God’s cherished and beloved children, and like a father who loves, protects and guides his child, God our Father always has our best interests in mind. God is indeed for us; He is in our corner, even when we can’t discern His presence.

None of us will escape suffering during our time on Earth. But our trust in the depth and breadth of God’s deep love and compassion for us strengthens us as we navigate life’s hardships both big and small.

Gracious God, I admit, sometimes I get caught up in all the things that seem to be going wrong in my life. Forgive me for missing the big picture of Your steadfast love. Please help me trust that You will keep my path straight, even when I can’t see exactly how You are working in my everyday life. Amen.
