The Weekly Word - A Devotion for the Week of March 28

Mar 25, 2022

Facebook, Twitter, the interstate, the grocery store and pretty much everywhere in between seem to offer us endless opportunities to let people know we are emphatically not on their side. But let’s consider something equally true: aren’t we also offered the same number of opportunities to let people know we are for them and with them, not against them?

Letting someone know you are “on their side” doesn’t mean you have to agree on every point or even hold the same views. It simply means you are willing to listen with an open heart, to show empathy and compassion and to act lovingly and respectfully toward the person with whom you are engaging. Life’s too short to maintain a stubborn posture of “against” all the time. We have a choice. Let’s find a way to be “for” our fellow human beings, even when – especially when – we disagree.
