Among some of our 2017 events from the holidays:
- 2017 Salvation Army’s “Boot-Block” with the Wichita Fire Department (Saturdays in November)
For 30 years, the Wichita Fire Department will be collecting money in their boots for The Salvation Army. However, this year there has been a significant change. Due to safety concerns, construction and potential inclement weather, Firefighters will park their firetrucks in local businesses parking lots to collect money in their fire boots. It’s a great opportunity to see the equipment up close and help fund the many programs at The Salvation Army.
- Warm Hearts Coat Distribution (Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 6 & 7)
Earlier this year our generous community provided nearly 5,000 warm coats, hats, gloves and blankets for those in need. Thanks to Warm Hearts partner In The Bag Cleaners for cleaning them all for this year’s distribution and restoring hope for those in need. Recipients may shop the store with proof of ID for each family member.
- The Red Kettle Kick-Off was 11/16, at City Command – 350 N Market featuring a Friends University Quartet, the Salvation Army Citadel Corps Band and 2017 Christmas Chair and new KSN-TV Anchor Jeff Herndon. The red kettles will be staffed with the familiar red aproned bellringers throughout the city and traditionally stationed throughout the Wichita area. Individuals are encouraged to register or gather a group of friends and co-workers to share in the ringing, singing and even entertaining at your location. Quickly and easily register to be a bellringer at: Registertoring.com.
- Angel Trees and Christmas Assistance from 11/24 to 12/11
You may adopt an Angel from the famous Angel Trees commonly displayed at Towne East and Town West Malls in Wichita. Area businesses and organizations are encouraged to host Angel Trees, as well. You may also visit the Angel Giving Tree online, where you can adopt Virtual Angels (sponsored by Koch Industries) at salarmywichita.theangelgivingtree.org.
