WMNI Division Homecoming 2016

Jul 29, 2016

Soldiers and friends of the Western Michigan Northern Indiana Division (WMNI) were invited to ‘come home’ to Little Pine Island Camp for a one day Homecoming Event.

The day began with a ‘warm’ welcome by Major Glen Caddy, Divisional Commander, who invited everyone to enjoy the amenities of camp and the fellowship of each other’s company.

Colonels Jeff and Dorothy Smith, Chief Secretary and Territorial Women’s Ministry Secretary, were our special guests for the day.  In two separate sessions Colonel Jeff encouraged those present to come home to a relationship with Jesus Christ as well as to deepen their spiritual life by allowing the Holy Spirit’s power to be present in all they do.

One of the highlights of the day was the sharing of a new vision for WMNI.

We envision an Army, united in its dedication to boldly follow where God leads, maximizing every opportunity to reach out in love with the life changing hope of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  (See sidebar for full text)

Additionally, an announcement was made of a new World Services partnership (see video below) between our division and The Salvation Army Tanzania (Africa) Territory where we will raise funds for two building projects in the next year.  The first project is the construction of a paved area at the Central Corps on the Dar es Salaam compound that currently houses Territorial Headquarters, College for Officer Training, and a home/school for handicapped children.  This construction will allow for future Salvationist and ecumenical gatherings.  Fundraising began at Homecoming, where almost $2200 was raised.  The total for both of these projects will be between $85,000 and $100,000.

Another highlight of the afternoon session was saying farewell to four young adults who will be entering the College for Officer Training in a few short weeks. Major Mary Poff, Candidates’ Secretary, encouraged them to do well in their studies and continue to trust in God. Major Glen Caddy prayed a prayer of dedication for the candidates as they pursue God’s calling on their lives.

The camp provided a beautiful setting for fellowship among families and friends. Attendees enjoyed boating, swimming, and fishing on this unseasonably warm day.  Indoor activities included family board games, a photo booth, and movie marathon.  The children were treated with water games to help them cool down. Three bounce houses provided an outlet for the more energetic.

Many adults enjoyed the praise fest provided by the Homecoming Praise team. A Homecoming Brass Band provided accompaniment to the singing as well as special music during the sessions.

Captain Judy Lowder from the Alma corps stated “I was truly blessed by the new vision statement for the division and I am excited about how the division will move forward because of it.  Those who attended from my corps really enjoyed the Homecoming event and cannot wait until next year.”

A new tradition has begun!  The next Homecoming is planned for Little Pine Island Camp on July 15, 2017.
