Summer Updates from Central Michigan
Corps across the Western Michigan and Northern Indiana Division are committed to serving their communities year-round. In a five-part summer series, we’ll be bringing to light some of the ways in which corps are preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and meeting human needs in His name without discrimination. This week, the Michigan corps of Jackson and the Lansing Capital Area are featured.

UPDATES
- The corps, under the direction of Majors Jose and Annette Tamayo, has been busy in July hosting summer day camp for children. Campers enjoy days full of team- and character-building activities, games and Bible stories.
UPCOMING
- The 12th annual Red Shield Classic will be held at Arbor Hills Golf Club on Friday, Sept. 10. The shotgun start begins at 9 a.m. and event proceeds will be used to purchase furniture for the children’s area. Contact the Corps for details.

serving Clinton, Eaton and Ingham Counties
UPDATES
- Majors Jim and Pat Irvine of the Lansing Citadel and Lieutenant James Beardsley of Lansing South provide critical services to their three-county region.
- In partnership with the Greater Lansing Food Bank, the corps provides a weekly food distribution, which includes produce, dairy and fresh meats, to community families.
- The Salvation Army Lansing Capital Area partnered with St. Vincent Catholic Charities and other area organizations for World Refugee Awareness Week. In honor of the week, The Salvation Army on June 19 offered refugee families free, professional photos to keep for their fresh start at life in the United States. Families also received a welcome bag of essential home and personal items, and a few items for summer fun. More than 75 individuals came for the photo opportunity.
- Over 200 community members took part in the corps’ Neighborhood Block Party on Sat., June 5. The three-hour outdoor celebration was full of hot dogs, snow cones, face painting, games, and prizes, and 20 bicycle and helmets were given away.
- The Hope, a women’s small group study led by Major Pat, met virtually every Tuesday evening in June.
- Majors Jim and Pat along with many supporters and congregants enjoyed a Lansing Lugnuts baseball game on May 28.
