Behind the Shield: Komal Khatri, Public Relations, The Red Kettle Club
In 2014, Brookfield Central High School started The Red Kettle Club. The Club’s mission is to provide middle and high school students an opportunity to serve the less fortunate of their communities through programs of The Salvation Army. They serve Milwaukee as well as the surrounding communities. They have over 120 active members and they complete 600 hours of service each year.
Meet Komal Khatri, Public Relations Specialist of The Red Kettle Club. She joined her freshman year after her sister got involved and encouraged her to join. By the end of her freshman year, she applied to be a part of the board and she was given the event coordinator role. She was recently offered the Public Relations role. Read more about Komal below.
Q. How did you first learn about The Salvation Army?
A. Through my sister. She was joined the club when it was started in 2014.
Q. What is your favorite experience with The Red Kettle Club/The Salvation Army?
A. I love all the people that are in the club and the different skills they bring to make the club so special.
Q. What is one thing you believe the world should know about The Salvation Army?
A. One thing I believe the world should know about The Salvation Army is that even the word salvation is often times related to faith; you don’t have to be involved with any religion to help people.
Q. What are 3 words you'd use to describe The Salvation Army?
A. Caring, generous and beneficial.
Q. What is your favorite project to work on?
A. One of my favorite projects/ events that I have done was making caramel apples for people at the Emergency Lodge
Q. Is there anything you'd like to add?
A. Through the Red Kettle Club, I have met so many amazing people who really love to do the most good in the world.
