Racine-Area Salvation Army and SC Johnson Partner to Help Those in Need Through Annual Red Kettle Campaign
SC Johnson Will Match Donations at Area Red Kettles on Saturday, December 21
RACINE, Wis., December 16, 2019 – During the holiday season, the nostalgic sound of bells can be heard at 14 Racine-area Salvation Army Red Kettle donation locations. This year, the organization is looking to increase donations for its annual Red Kettle Campaign so it can continue to serve the more than 10,000 community members who receive assistance each year.
SC Johnson will match donations received on Saturday, December 21, making each dollar raised even more significant by doubling its giving power. This marks SC Johnson’s eighth year matching contributions during the Red Kettle Campaign, totaling almost $150,000 since 2012. Last year alone, SC Johnson gave over $21,000 in match donations.
“In the spirit of the season, I hope the dollar-for-dollar match will inspire people to take an extra few minutes on Saturday to donate,” said Fisk Johnson, Chairman and CEO of SC Johnson. “The holidays are a time of giving and remind us that many in our hometown need help. Our donations can go a long way toward providing food, clothing and shelter to those who need it.”
The 2018 Red Kettle Campaign raised over $300,000 for the community. This year, the organization hopes to increase the total amount raised to $325,000.
“When someone gives, their contribution remains here in the community, and the impact is felt all year round,” said John Costabile – Advisory Board Chairman, Racine-area Salvation Army Corps. “We’re extremely grateful to have SC Johnson match donations again this year. Their generosity allows us to serve more than 100,000 meals to those in need, assist those affected by disasters and provide a variety of after-school programs in addition to providing other basic services to those in our community.”
Due to the record number of donations over the last four years, the Salvation Army was able to launch the Healthy Kids Diner program in May 2019. This community program gives children the opportunity to have a hot, healthy dinner meal that might otherwise not be available.
