The Salvation Army Delivers Goodness on National Donut Day
LA CROSSE – Traditionally considered the “Sweetest Day of the Year”, The Salvation Army of La Crosse County plans to hand out smiles by the Dozen.
Held annually on the first Friday in June, National Donut Day is a sweet time to celebrate America’s heroes. The Salvation Army, in collaboration with Kwik Trip, will give thanks to the heroes in our community by delivering donuts and hope to the community on Friday, June 5th.
This tradition dates back to World War I, when nearly 250 Salvation Army volunteers traveled overseas to provide emotional and spiritual support, fried confectionery, clothes and supplies to troops. For more than a century, the organization has continued to provide snacks, hydration, and comfort to the first responders and front-line workers.
“The Salvation Army has always been a beacon of hope and healing for those fighting for good,” says Major Jeff Richardson of The Salvation Army, “We want to thank those who have kept our community healthy and safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Two anonymous donors have come forward to challenge the community to help raise funds to The Salvation Army of La Crosse County, which will be used to fund every day programs such as the Emergency Shelter and Meal services, along with other programs such as Case Management and Veteran services, among other programs. A total of $15,000 has been dedicated as a special “match” to donations made during the week of National Donut Day.
“Every donation counts!” adds Development Director of the Salvation Army Christina Knudsen, “This generous match allows every donation to be doubled.”
Donations can be sent through by mail, phone, or with our new Text-to-Give number by texting “La Crosse” to 24365. For questions and concerns related to National Donut Day, community members are urged to call The Salvation Army at (608)782-6126 or visit salvationarmyusa.org/usn/national-donut-day/.
