‘Back 2 School’ registration underway
LA CROSSE WI – Two long-standing agencies in the La Crosse community are teaming up to help students get ready for school this fall.
‘Back 2 School’, a collaborative effort between The Salvation Army and Catholic Charities, is a program that provides students and their families with school supplies and ‘first day of school’ outfits. As part of the program, Catholic Charities will oversee school supply collection while The Salvation Army handles clothing.
The Salvation Army will provide up to 500 students with shoes and clothing. Catholic Charities will not have a limit as to how many students can sign up for school supplies. Last year, more than 800 students were assisted with backpacks and supplies through the program.
Valley View Mall and Shopko stores in the La Crosse area will once again act as drop off sites for donations. ‘Back 2 School’ tags featuring a student’s name and clothing sizes will be available to the public starting July 6th.
Families can start registering online for the program on June 18th by heading to www.cclse.org or www.SalvationArmyLaCrosse.org. The deadline to submit an application is July 26th.
All school supplies and clothing will be distributed on August 15th at the La Crosse Center. Free haircuts will also be offered at the La Crosse Center for students that come with their parents.
