Green Bay, WI. (June 3, 2019) – As many people celebrate National Donut Day, it’s important to remember that the warm, delicious treat also serves as a symbol of hope. Started by The Salvation Army on the first Friday in June in 1938, National Donut Day was created to honor the Donut Lassies who served the sweet treats to soldiers on the frontlines of World War I.

To commemorate the work that the Donut Lassies started in 1917 and to demonstrate the impact of a small token of kindness, The Salvation Army will deliver thousands of donuts around the country on National Donut Day, June 7, 2019.

In Green Bay, The Salvation Army will partner with Uncle Mike’s Bake Shoppe to deliver pre-ordered donuts and hand out free original war-time recipe donuts to customers.  Donut distribution and promotions at all 3 Uncle Mike’s locations include:

  • Free original recipe donuts distributed from 7 am – 10 am (Or while supplies last)
  • Free coffee for veterans
  • $2 from every dozen donuts sold that day donated by Uncle Mike’s to The Salvation Army of Greater Green Bay
  • Preorders are being accepted. For pick-up orders, call your local Uncle Mike’s location. For free local delivery of 3 dozen or more donuts, visit sagreenbay.org and complete the order form.

And the celebration continues into the evening! Uncle Mike’s will also provide donuts to be handed out to the first 100 people through the gates at The Green Bay Booyah baseball game, where The Salvation Army is the charity partner that evening. Gates open at 5:30pm.

"It’s an honor to partner with The Salvation Army and support their great cause of helping our community,” said Mike Vande Walle, owner of Uncle Mike’s Bake Shoppe.
