The Salvation Army of Racine Partners Up With 2 Local Restaurants To Serve Children

RACINE - In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Salvation Army of Racine has partnered with two local restaurants to provide food for children involved in its "Healthy Kids Diner" program.

Typically, the children gather at various Racine Police Department COP (Community Oriented Policing) Houses, Monday through Friday, and The Salvation Army serves a nutritious meal.

Now, The Maple Table and Reefpoint Brew House have worked with The Salvation Army's nutritious meal guidelines and have packaged hot to-go meals Monday though Friday, with an additional weekend to-go bag on Fridays. Meals include a protein, vegetable, fruit and milk.

"For children who are facing hardships in their communities and their families, the Healthy Kids Diner meal sites typically provide an opportunity for them to be just a kid and to feel loved," said Major Cindy Nicolai, a Corps Officer at The Salvation Army of Racine. "We’ll give these kids a nutritious meal, but we also try to offer opportunities for them to have fun.”

The meals will continue throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
