The Salvation Army To Host Specialized Training for Volunteers


WAUWATOSA – Have you ever wanted to volunteer for The Salvation Army during a disaster (hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding)? If so, The Salvation Army is hosting three Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) training sessions in April and May. These classes are required for volunteers being sent to any scene.
The classes will be taught by Salvation Army EDS staff. Those interested can register online: http://salar.my/trainingwi.

Class information:

Spiritual and Psychological First Aid
Time: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Date: April 26-27
Place: The Salvation Army Fox Cities Corps, 1525 Appleton Road, Menasha, WI  54952
Details: This one of the core classes to do emotional and spiritual care on disaster deployments, but anyone interested is welcome to register. Material will cover basic principles of providing emergency crisis emotional and spiritual care. Participants must attend both days.  

Disaster Food Service & Canteen Operations
Time: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Date: May 10
Place: The Salvation Army Oak Creek Centennial Church & Community Center, 8853 S. Howell Ave. Oak Creek, WI 53154
Details: The Disaster Food Service and Canteen Operations course is designed as the starting point for any disaster worker who wishes to be part of the disaster food operations. Participants who complete the course will learn about different types of Salvation Army food service equipment, the essentials of building a food service team, canteen operations and maintenance, and the basics of menu planning.  
 
ServSafe Food Handlers Certification 
Time: 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Date: May 11
Place: The Salvation Army Oak Creek Centennial Church & Community Center, 8853 S. Howell Ave. Oak Creek, WI 53154
Details: This course introduces participants to the basics of safe food handling. The course explains how food can become unsafe through time-temperature abuse, cross-contamination, improper cleaning and sanitizing, and the importance of good personal hygiene plays in limiting the spread of bacteria and other dangerous pathogens. Certification for this class is through the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation.
