Our Doors will be Open Image

Our Doors will be Open

24 Hours a Day, 7 Days a Week
We will be there to help those in the most need.

In 2020, 101 people could not be assisted due to a lack of space

The Salvation Army saw the need for shelter in both Polk and Barron counties. So our organization decided it was time to create a shelter to serve the need in both counties.
The Salvation Army shelter is positioned between both Polk and Barron Counties and will help serve our homeless and folks in transition.

How we help provide housing

TO OPEN OUR DOORS IN 2023

This program will serve single individuals and families who are experiencing homelessness. Program participants will regain their lives by focusing on three components:  dignified shelter, permanent homes, and dedicated self-sufficiency services that create pathways to opportunities.

The shelter was an old nursing home that has been renovated. Its design allows for each family to have their own room and each individual to have either their own room or a shared room depending on availability. The shelter can house up to 24 individuals at any given time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. During their stay, each person or family will be paired with a case manager who regularly works to set goals that will help regain independence and find permanent housing.

Family House Emergency Shelter

We currently provide housing and other services off-site until the shelter is finished and ready for use. If you are in need of shelter or other services, please call our 24/7 hotline at 715-606-4150 or email her at Autumn.Hoff@usc.salvationarmy.org.

The emergency shelter will be available at any time for up to 90 days. We have staff on-site 24 hours a day. Family House will be more than just a shelter, we also provide programs that help people rebuild their lives.

The staff will work with our residents to promote self-sufficiency by providing a safe and secure environment that allows individuals the opportunity to overcome unresolved issues. Through education, residents are encouraged to be responsible for themselves and others. The staff will help promote skills to make appropriate choices for a healthy value system creating strong families and safe communities.

Upon departing from our programs, we will ensure all families and individuals are permanently housed and have a relapse prevention plan in place. By offering educational opportunities and access to all community assistance programs, we will help connect individuals to the tools they will need for continued success.

Transitional Housing

Transitional Housing comes with a positive support system to help individuals with long-term support. Services include case management, help with building a solid rent history, and long-term concentrated efforts toward connecting the individual or family with community resources. People in this program pay a stipend, based on income, to participate. This helps build a rent history that is strong and helps the family transition back into permanent housing with a healthy, and financially stable rent history and plan moving forward.
