When a major disaster strikes, victims need food and shelter. What is often missing is emotional and spiritual care.

The Salvation Army is here to provide this type of care. To introduce a loving God into the lives of those most in need. Our motto is "Doing the Most Good.? These four words reflect The Salvation Army?s mission to feed, to clothe, to comfort, to care for body and soul. We operate over 7,500 church and community centers in neighborhoods across the United States, offering a range of social services as well as disaster relief and recovery.

The Salvation Army is a worldwide church. We believe:

Founded 1865

In Victorian England, the East End of London was a place most people were afraid to go, and where polite society had no part. William and Catherine Booth, felt that God wanted them to go into this darkness and share His Love. Booth was smart enough to realize that no one, "could hear a preacher if his stomach was growling more loudly from hunger than the preacher could speak!" Together, they set about meeting simple needs as living examples of God's Love with the hope that providing that example would be more effective than merely talking about it. More than 150 years later, The Salvation Army is active in 129 countries around the world.

A relatively small church

Worldwide, there are just over 2 million members (or Soldiers) of The Salvation Army's church. Many more attend services at The Salvation Army, but are not members.

With a big vision

Preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ and meeting Human need in His name without discrimination is the Mission of The Salvation Army. With your help, we are able to help almost 30 million people per year in the U.S. alone. Worldwide, it is said that only the United Nations provides more direct social service help to individuals than The Salvation Army.

Sunday Worship

Whether church is already part of your life or you are experiencing faith for the first time, you are always welcome. Each of our Worship and Service Centers in the U.S. offers a worship service, plus programming for adults and children on Sunday mornings. Contact your local center for times.

Weekday Ministry Programs

We know Sundays don?t always work, so we want to make sure you have a chance to connect with other believers. Most cities offer programming during the week for people of all ages?from men?s and women?s Bible studies to youth groups and social clubs for all ages.

Pastoral Counseling

Our officers are ordained pastors and can help you work through any season in life?spiritual or emotional. They offer advice based on God?s word and will pray with you for the strength to press on. Whether you are facing the loss of a loved one, working through legal difficulties or just need to share with someone, you will find someone ready to listen.

All are welcome

Anyone who wants to come is welcome at a Salvation Army service. You'll find that most of us are pretty friendly, and will be happy to see you! Our services are pretty informal, and sometimes even fun. We?d love to see you anytime.

Your generous support helps us share God's love and care.

God bestows His blessing without discrimination

We believe that God loves each person equally, and that Christ came to the World to make it possible for all to know God. The service we provide without discrimination is intended to provide an example?especially to those who don?t share our beliefs.

Fight For Good!

"While Women weep, as they do now, I'll fight; while children go hungry, as they do now I'll fight; while men go to prison, in and out, in and out, as they do now, I'll fight; while there is a poor lost girl upon the streets, while there remains one dark soul without the light of God, I?ll fight, I?ll fight to the very end!" ? William Booth, Salvation Army Founder.
