Why I love working at The Salvation Army!
Arline Wiggins has worked for The Salvation Army of Cadillac, MI for 29 ½ years. She recently sat down and was interviewed regarding her long-time service to Wexford, Missaukee and Kalkaska Counties through The Salvation Army.
Arline was asked why she loves working for The Salvation Army. She stated that she enjoys meeting with people, hearing their stories and seeing their kids grow up. What she loves most of all is watching their countenance change she is able to meet one or more of their most pressing needs. She states they come in with worry etched across their face, shoulders sagging under the weight of their burden, and cloaked in despair. Regardless of how big or small the need they have, when she is able to provide a service to them, she takes great joy in watching their worry turn to relief, their shoulders rise like a heavy weight has been lifted, and hope fill their eyes.
Arline was asked how she feels when she goes home at the end of her working day. With tears in her eyes, she responded, “ I feel satisfied and content knowing that through The Salvation Army I was able to keep my community’s neediest families from being homeless, living in the dark, freezing in the deep winter, clothed and fed.”
