Kids Deserve Kindness

Our main charge is to ensure that all are met with understanding and love. At the core of all that we do, fighting for our youth is a primary driver to share God's grace.

The Salvation Army is renowned for the holistic care approach incorporated into everything we do. Providing a safe place to play and a warm meal is just the start. We also provide character-building programs, summer camp, sports activities, after school programs, back-to-school drives and mentorship. The youth of today will be equipped and empowered for life, tomorrow.

Character Building Programs

Adventure Corps, Sunbeams, Girl Guards and Moonbeams

Meets at 5:00 PM on Wednesday nights during the school year.

The Salvation Army Adventure Corps program is a holistic Christian education experience for boys in grades 1-12.  The Salvation Army Sunbeam and Girl Guard programs are holistic Christian Education experiences for girls in grades 1-12. The Salvation Army Moonbeam program is a holistic Christian Education experience for girls and boys in pre-k and kindergarten.

The goals of the Character Building programs are to develop positive social and communication habits, decision making and life skills, character and leadership.  This is done through a Biblical worldview by encouraging a sense of personal identity and character, Christian values and Biblical principles and physical, mental, spiritual, and social development in a safe environment for learning, developing, and caring that is age appropriate and Christ centered.

After School Programming

Our CHILL program is an opportunity for children to go to a safe environment after a busy day at school throughout the entire school year. It meets Monday through Thursday, 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM,  throughout the school year. For more details call our office at 616-842-3380.

Little Pine Island Camp

For many kids, summer camp is the first time they will see the world outside of their neighborhood. Each year, Little Pine Island welcomes hundreds of children from low-income families to enjoy fresh air, exercise and new friendships through our annual summer program. This experience is more than just a few days away from home. Here, children learn new skills and self-reliance. Trained counselors who understand their emotional needs and problems help them mature and grow. Camp activities include learning to swim, scouting, arts and crafts, music development, and sports.
