We serve those who have served our country Image

We serve those who have served our country

We serve our veterans with gratitude, providing comfort, support, shelter, and more.

Veterans make up 8% of the homeless population in the U.S.

Homelessness, PTSD, self-medication, and addiction have caused those who gave everything to lose everything.

We have made it our mission to serve veterans who've served us.

It all began with donuts and coffee for soldiers during World War I, and it only grew from there. Today, The Salvation Army offers a range of services, providing comfort, support, counseling, and shelter to thousands of veterans in need each year. We express gratitude for our country’s bravest men and women by offering a hand and our hearts to those struggling to find their way after coming back home.

Serve a Veteran in Need. You Can Help.

The Salvation Army Serves Thousands of Veterans Through:

 Emergency Shelter

Our shelters provide meals, medical care, clothing, and counseling. Our case management services help every family find housing and connect with other community resources. Learn more about finding a shelter near you.

Homelessness Prevention & Emergency Assistance Programs

We provide emergency assistance to help with mortgage/rent, utility bills, clothing, medication bills, and other needs in order to keep individuals and families in their homes. For more information or support, find a location near you, or learn more online.

 William Booth Legal Aid Clinic

Established in 1994, the Clinic services residents from Wayne, Oakland and Macomb County, in addition to providing assistance to the indigent population participating in The Salvation Army's residential Harbor Light Programs. The Clinic provides legal counsel, advocacy and education and facilitates social services on behalf of those in need within the community. Learn more about getting free legal aid.

 Bed & Bread Program

Our Bed & Bread Club provides a warm, nutritious meal 365 days a year and a safe place to stay to individuals and families across Michigan. In addition, in the City of Detroit our Bed & Bread trucks make nearly 60 stops where individuals can receive a nutritious meal, coats, gloves and blankets. We also assist those interested in leaving the streets.

Food Pantries

The Salvation Army has food pantries throughout the state of Michigan. Food boxes may include shelf-stable pantry items, breads, cereals, meat and other household necessities. For more information, contact a Corps Community and Worship Center near you.

Pathway of Hope

A comprehensive case management system to help families identify barriers to self-sufficiency (unemployment, insecure housing, lack of job skills, lack of childcare, etc), Pathway of Hope also provides guidance on how to address these barriers, and connects families with community support organizations, and more.

Substance Use Disorder Rehabilitation

Studies have shown that veterans struggling with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder also struggle with addictions. More than 30% of vets seeking treatment for substance use disorder also battle PTSD.

Harbor Light

The Harbor Light is an intense, inpatient substance abuse treatment and rehabilitation program. One of the most respected programs in the country, Harbor Light provides transitional services and employment training to help clients overcome their addiction and successfully transition back into their communities.

Adult Rehabilitation Centers

The Adult Rehabilitation Centers provide intense work-based substance abuse therapy for a minimum of six months. Clients live onsite and work in Salvation Army thrift stores, while participating in a full range of treatment programs. Learn more.

Social Events and Groups

Men and women who served in the military, and their families, have unique and personal experiences. Several Salvation Army community centers host regular social groups and outings specifically for veterans. Find your local center.
