Help Stop Hunger during Meijer Simply Give Donation Program
The Salvation Army Traverse City and Meijer Partner
to Provide Hunger Relief Through Retailer’s Simply Give Food Pantry Donation Program
Campaign set to run through Jan. 4
TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The Salvation Army Traverse City food pantry is proud to announce a partnership with Meijer this holiday season to provide much-needed hunger relief to local families through the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer’s customer-driven food pantry donation program, Simply Give.
“Food received by food pantry guests goes beyond a meal – it means nutrition and healthy minds and bodies. For many who turn to the food pantry it also means the difference between being able to pay the heat bill or have gas to be able to work.” said Major Jeff Russell”
Each Meijer Simply Give campaign replenishes the shelves of more than 245 food pantries in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Wisconsin. The program encourages customers to purchase $10 Simply Give donation cards, which are then converted into Meijer food-only gift cards and given to a local food pantry in the store’s community.
The Salvation Army will benefit from donation cards purchased at the US-31 Traverse City location now through Jan. 4 with KAIR (Kalkaska Area Interfaith Resources) benefiting from cards purchased at the Acme, Meijer location.
“We encourage community members to help us fulfill our mission of helping feed the hungry in greater Grand Traverse region by purchasing a Meijer Simply Give food donation card during their next shopping trip,” said Major Jeff Russell.
December 3 and December 13 are Meijer DOUBLE MATCH DAYS. For each $10 Simply Give purchased Meijer will double match it – meaning $10 purchased + $20 Meijer Double Match = $30 for the food pantry. *Meijer will double match Simply Give donations up to a maximum of $5000 = $10,000.
For the eighth consecutive year, Meijer will contribute at least $1 million to the 2019 Simply Give program.
Additionally, don’t just share the photo, share the meal this holiday season. Take a picture of your meal and for every public post with the hashtag #MeijerSimplyGive now through Nov. 28, Meijer will donate a meal to a family in need.
The Simply Give program runs three times a year: Spring, Fall and Holiday. Since the program began in November 2008, more than $50 million has been generated for food pantries in the Midwest to distribute to our hungry neighbors.
“Food pantries continue to struggle with keeping up with the flood of requests they receive daily,” Meijer Spokeswoman Christina Fecher said. “The Simply Give program is a way for Meijer customers to partner with us and support the food banks and pantries that provide food to our hungry neighbors in the communities we serve. We certainly couldn’t do it without the support and commitment of our generous customers and team members, who stand beside us in this effort.”
