Red Kettle Campaign Goes High Tech
The Salvation Army Red Kettle Goes High Tech with “Kettle Pay” and “Register to Ring”
Red Kettles in Traverse City now offer digital donation capabilities through Apple Pay and Google Pay
(Traverse City, MI) November 27, 2019– As America moves toward becoming a cashless society, The Salvation Army is making it easier for donors to give back during the Christmas season by making a gift with Apple Pay or Google Pay at the iconic Red Kettles.
And as more and more businesses go cashless, and consumers are more likely these days to pay with a debit card, a charity born 154 years ago now has a high tech channel for donations as well as virtual Red Kettles.
The Salvation Army has placed smart chips and QR codes on Red Kettle signs in Traverse City, allowing shoppers to simply “bump” or scan their phones to make a digital donation.
Shoppers will be directed to a custom donation page that accepts Apple or Google payment options. The funds will then be distributed to local Salvation Army units based on the donor’s billing ZIP code, and an email receipt will be sent directly to their phone.
“Kettle Pay makes it even easier for donors to support The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign and join the Fight for Good. It provides an opportunity for people to fight for our neighbors experiencing poverty by raising money for Salvation Army programs in their communities, including food for the hungry, safe warm homes, hope in times of crisis and Christmas assistance for families in need,” said Major Jeff Russell, Traverse City Salvation Army.
In addition to increasing convenient ways for individuals to support the Red Kettle campaign through technology, registering to Bell Ring has also seen a positive impact through online registration. Volunteers can now conveniently see all eighteen Traverse City Red Kettle locations by date and time and quickly register as an individual or group at RegistertoRing.com. Beyond registering to bell ring – Bell Ringers will also receive a reminder email/text of their shift and impact.”
Bell Ringers, businesses/community members and those who would love to Bell Ring but cannot be out in the cold to lengths of time or limited on time can now have their own virtual Red Kettle. Setting up a personal/business Red Kettle takes only a matter of minutes. Sharing the virtual Red Kettle on social media or through email with family, friends, co-workers, and clients is very simple and impactful.
Now in its 129th year, The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign is one of the oldest and largest charitable campaigns in the world. Every year, the campaign raises millions of dollars to provide toys for kids at Christmas, clothes and safe warm homes, food for the hungry, youth programs, and other services to our most vulnerable neighbors year-round.
Donations to the Traverse City Red Kettle campaign are accepted at any of the 18 area Red Kettle online or by mail or in person at The Salvation Army, 1239 Barlow St. Traverse City, MI 49686
As The Salvation Army Traverse City closes out their 125th year of local service they thank the community for their support and for embracing generations of our neighbors when they need it most.
