The Salvation Army and Meijer Support Families in Need This Holiday Season Through
Simply Give Hunger Relief Program
Campaign runs now through Dec. 30
The Salvation Army of Traverse City is proud to announce a partnership with Meijer to provide much-needed relief to local families facing food insecurity through the retailer’s customer-driven hunger relief program, Simply Give.
“It has been an incredibly challenging year for the Food Pantry as most food aid programs tied to the pandemic have ended earlier this year, including the decline in benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) program and more of our neighbors struggle with food insecurities” said Envoy Greg Irwin.
Each Meijer Simply Give campaign feeds hungry families by replenishing the shelves of more than 260 food pantries in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Wisconsin. The program encourages customers to purchase $10 Simply Give donation cards, which are then converted into Meijer food-only gift cards and given to a local food pantry in the store’s community.
The Salvation Army will benefit from donation cards purchased at the Traverse City US-31 Meijer store now through Dec. 30. In addition, Meijer will double match any cards purchased on Saturday, Dec. 16, effectively tripling contributions made on those days. Meijer customers shopping online using Meijer Pickup or Home Delivery can also purchase Simply Give donation cards as an add-on to their orders.
“Continued hardships, especially as many pandemic-related programs have ended, have taught us all the importance of community members supporting each other,” said Envoy Greg Irwin at The Salvation Army Food Pantry. “During this busy, yet critical holiday season, we encourage our community to give and help us feed their neighbors in need in the greater Traverse City area by purchasing a Meijer Simply Give food donation card during their next shopping trip.”
Since the program began in 2008, more than $84 million have been distributed to food pantries across the Midwest to feed its neighbors in need.
“The Simply Give program is a way for our customers to directly support their local food pantries that feed families in need in their own communities,” said Ray Hancart, Vice President, Communications & Public Relations at Meijer. “For the last 15 years, Simply Give has made incredible strides to ensure food is accessible to every community we serve and it’s all because of the support of our generous customers and team members who continue to help keep our local pantry shelves stocked.”
