Update: December 21, 2021
THANK YOU
UPDATE December 21, 2021: We are is excited to share, that thanks to the incredible generosity of the community they exceeded the $30,000 Red Kettle Matching Monday challenge gift goal – raising $45,915.22 (over $26,000 was raised on December 20) with final numbers expected on Wednesday from virtual Red Kettle totals.
Lieutenant Matthew Winters said, “We are thankful to our community for stepping up and embracing not only The Salvation Army programs, but embracing our neighbors with help, love, and hope when they need it most. We know that the challenges of the rising cost of basic needs including food, gas for families to get back and forth to work, and significant increases in heating costs this winter will increase the need for services.”
“Every donation whether financial or the gift of time to bell ring that was given during the Red Kettle Matching Monday challenge and throughout the Red Kettle Campaign is a priceless gift that will live on in the lives of those we have the privilege to serve. We humbly thank everyone for their generosity so that The Salvation Army can maximize the services and resources we can provide to our neighbors in their time of need.”
Matching Monday gave a significant boost to the overall Red Kettle Campaign which continues to be behind the $220,000 goal of the campaign.
The Red Kettle Campaign continues through December 24. There are just a few final days for individuals, families, and friends to register to ring and spread joy this holiday season and bring hope in 2022. Volunteers can register to ring at Register to Ring
The Salvation Army looks forward to welcoming the community to The Salvation Army Christmas Dinner Community Meal on Wednesday, December 22 from 11 AM – 2 PM. The Christmas Dinner with all the fixings will be served To-Go at The Salvation Army Community Center at 1239 Barlow St. Traverse City.
December 3, 2021, Traverse City, MI: The Salvation Army Traverse City is once again excited to announce a $30,000 matching gift challenge to the Red Kettle campaign. Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, Red Kettle donations will be matched dollar for dollar up to a total of $30,000 during Matching Mondays - December 6, 13, and 20, 2021.
Lieutenant Matthew Winters explained, “The need for assistance continues to rise as the cost of basic needs including food, gas for families to get back and forth to work and significant anticipated increases in heating costs kick in with the cold weather arriving. At the same time, we have faced the challenge of lower coverage at the Red Kettles this season. When a Red Kettles does not have that joyful bell ringer, kettles get a handful of change, whereas a bell ringer will raise eighty to one hundred plus dollars during a two-hour belling shift. That equals 80+ meals or heat to keep a family warm this holiday and winter season every two hours.
This incredible $30,000 matching challenge gift means that every penny, nickel, dime, quarter, and dollar bill put in a Traverse City Salvation Army Red Kettle during Matching Monday is doubled because there is no minimum or maximum donation amount. It means double the impact to provide meaningful gifts: the gift of a warm meal, a toy, a safe warm home, and the priceless gift of hope for someone in our community who is struggling during this challenging time.
The Salvation Army would love to see all of the Red Kettle bell ringing shifts full especially during Matching Mondays - the impact is huge for the community. For those who want to help but may not have the extra resources to contribute financially, the priceless gift of their time is beyond measure. It is the perfect opportunity to share joy, whether you bell ring alone, spend time with a friend, start a new family tradition or bring your group together.”
All proceeds from our The Red Kettle campaign stay in our community – when donors give locally, they are helping real people in our community. When people give change at a Red Kettle, they help to ensure that Hope Marches On when it is needed most.
“We are once again humbled by this matching challenge gift. Our Red Kettle campaign goal this year is $220,000. We need the communities’ support once again to maximize this gift and maximize programs and services in the community through financial donations and just as importantly through the gift of time to bell ring. Together, we can make Christmas Bright and bring hope in 2022,” said Lieutenant Winters.
