UPDATE: December 20 - We are excited and humbled to share that through the incredible generosity of the communities the Red Kettle Matching Monday $40,000 challenge match was matched and exceeded raising $48,671.18.
All funds raised stay local to make Christmas Bright and provide rental, utility, and emergency financial assistance, food pantry, community meals, youth programs and so much and will bring hope in 2023 to our neighbors in their time of need.

UPDATE: Through December 12 - Red Kettle Matching Monday has raised $32,631.31 towards the $40,000 Challenge Match! The final Traverse City, Red Kettle Matching Monday is December 19. Grateful to the amazing bell ringers and our incredible community for their generous hearts and love for their neighbors in their time of need.
December 1, 2022, Traverse City, MI: The Salvation Army Traverse City is excited to announce a matching gift challenge to the Red Kettle campaign. Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, Red Kettle donations will be matched dollar for dollar up to a total of $40,000 during Matching Mondays - December 5, 12, and 19, 2022.
Lieutenant Matthew Winters shared, “For thousands of our vulnerable neighbors, The Salvation Army is their lifeline during their hardest days - no matter the season. The challenges of the rising cost of everyday necessities along with interest rates are a reality being faced by each one of us. Many people’s budgets are being stretched beyond the limits of maintaining basic everyday needs - maintaining their homes, health, stability, and dignity.
The Salvation has seen unprecedented increases in requests for assistance, while at the same time seeing increased costs of food for the food pantry, and the Community Meal program continues to grow. We are doing everything we can to answer the call for help…but we cannot do it alone.
This incredible $40,000 matching challenge gift means that every penny, nickel, dime, quarter, dollar bill, and check put in a Traverse City Salvation Army Red Kettle during Matching Monday is doubled because there is no minimum or maximum donation amount. It means double the impact to provide meaningful gifts: the gift of a warm meal, a toy, a safe warm home, and the priceless gift of hope for someone in our community who is struggling during this challenging time.”
All Red Kettle donations stay in our community – when donors give locally, they are helping real people in their community.
“We are once again humbled by this matching challenge gift. Our Red Kettle campaign goal this year is $230,000. We are asking the community to join us to maximize this gift and maximize the impact our programs have through financial donations and just as importantly through the gift of time to bell ring. Together, we can bring hope and love beyond cold nights, overdue bills, and skipped meals,” added Lieutenant Winters.
