Road to Recovery
Recently Captain Brenna took a moment to clean up the weeds that had been growing in the rock beds around The Salvation Army. While pulling weeds she is approached by a man named Chris, Chris has been in active addiction for 40 years but today is his 23rd day free of alcohol and he is struggling to stay clean - “everywhere I turn there are bars and all I want to do is drink.”
Chris approached Brenna and asks, “do you have a cup of coffee?” “We don’t, but if you give me a couple minuets, I can brew up a fresh pot” Brenna responds. Moments later Chris finds himself inside The Salvation Army coffee in hand talking with the Director of Social Services, Chris shares: “I finished a program at Centerstone, and I was supposed to go into this other place, but when I got there, they said they won’t have beds open until Monday.” “I don’t think I am going to last until Monday, I need something now.” Chris sits as the Director of Social Services explains “The Salvation Army has a great long-term recovery program in Indianapolis with beds available today.” Chris completes his intake interview over the phone and learns all about the 6 months, Christ centered, rehab program – exactly what he needed. Within hours Chris finds himself on the road to Indianapolis, driven by the same person who stopped to get him coffee just moments earlier.
