By providing programs that serve the body, mind and soul, The Salvation Army helps alleviate the symptoms of poverty - and works to address the root issues that cause it.

The programs that create real change for those in need across Des Moines County 

 

  • Pathway of Hope - The Salvation Army has seen tremendous success bringing families out of generational poverty through our Pathway of Hope program. Alongside a dedicated case manager, families enrolled will plan and set goals, get connected to both internal and external resources, and ultimately learn how to support themselves out of poverty and into a new chapter of hope. 
  • Emergency Assistance
    • Client can fill out emergency assistance app with the Social Ministries Coordinator
    • Tuesdays and Thursday’s   9 AM-11 AM and 1 PM-3 PM.
  • Rent, Water, Utilities Assistance 
    • They can pick from the three resources. They can only get helped once every 14 months. The cap for funding for assistance is $ 100.00 per person or family. First come, first served
    • We ask that the bill be under $500.00, if it is not we will not help. Reason for this is that they will be shut off anyway so we want to provide $100 to someone else that could use it.
    • What you Need bring the bill such as disconnect or eviction notice.
    • When it comes to rent they have to get a landlord statement and bring it back to the coordinator.
    • Bring proof of income such as earned income, SSI/SSDI/award letter, DHS printout, unemployment letter.
    • Proof of ID along with address verification.
  • Vouchers
    • Gas voucher
      • Is for Pathway of Hope Program only.
    • Hotel voucher
      • Is for disaster situations.
      • The hotel is located in Burlington, IA ONLY.
    • Clothing voucher
      • Disaster situations and Pathway of Hope program once a year.
    • Household Items voucher
      • Is for disaster situations or Pathway of Hope program ONLY.
    • Travel voucher
      • Disaster situations
      • Excluded- funeral, sick relatives, return to home, relocate, and holidays due to funding.
