The Salvation Army and 97.9 WJLB Team Up for Halloween Trunk or Treat Event

On October 31, 2024, The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit’s Conner Creek Corps Community Center hosted a Trunk or Treat event for metro Detroit children in need. The event took place on at the Detroit Police Department 5th Precinct, located at 3500 Conner St. in Detroit.
The Salvation Army partnered with Detroit’s Hip-Hop & R&B Station, 97.9 WJLB to distribute over 600 new children’s coats throughout the event. Since 1982, the organizations have come together to provide coats and other winter accessories to children in need across metro Detroit.

“Our Trunk or Treat event will offer a fun and safe trick-or-treating experience for kids, while also equipping them with the essential gear to stay warm this winter," said Major Charlotte Hall, general secretary, and metro Detroit area commander for The Salvation Army Great Lakes Division.
“Thanks to 97.9 WJLB and our community partners, The Salvation Army can offer children warmth and hope, letting them focus on what truly matters this season.”
In addition to the coat distribution, candy and hot dogs were served. As an extra ‘treat,’ Buddy’s Pizza donated gifts cards to event volunteers and local families.
