'Secret Santa' leaves gold coin worth up to $2,500 in Salvation Army red kettle

Story by WKOW:

It's the season of giving, and a "secret Santa" was feeling extra generous recently.

Taylor Pasell, a spokesperson with the Salvation Army of Dane County, said the organization was alerted of a gold coin dropped in the kettle at Metcalfe's Hilldale.

"It’s a 1974 Krugerrand Gold Coin from South Africa, worth between $2,000 and $2,500," Pasell said.

It's the second gold coin this season, and the second time ever in Dane County.

The donator left a note with the coin saying "when we have the opportunity we should do good to everyone."
