Summer Kettle Campaign: Give When No One's Looking
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
THE SUMMER KETTLE CAMPAIGN: GIVE WHEN NO ONE’S LOOKING
Annual campaign goes virtual to help alleviate summer need
MADISON, WI – The Salvation Army of Dane County is serving nearly triple the number of families in emergency shelter due to the pandemic, jumping from 22 families in July of 2019 to 59 families in June 2020, with 34+ on a waitlist. Summer Day Camp organizers at The Salvation Army are also delivering weekly boxed activity kits and meals to 32 children who would normally be participating in in-person activities. This year’s Summer Kettle Campaign is going partly virtual to help support this increase in services provided and make the most of a $50,000 match offered by an anonymous donor.
Kettle stands, in about 25 locations across Dane County, have been outfitted with Kettle Pay stickers (for Apple and Android smartphones) and Text-to-Give instructions for easy digital donation options—even if a ringer isn’t present. The phrase “Give When No One’s Looking” is emblazoned on each kettle sign, encouraging donors to give anonymously when and where they can. The summer need is a reality that must be met with creative solutions and the 2020 Summer Kettle Campaign aims to do just that with digital options as well as Facebook Live ringing events that educate and entertain viewers.
The Summer Kettle Campaign runs July 17 through August 1. There are about 82% of shifts open, running one hour each. For more information and a full list of kettle locations, visit RingBellsDane.org.

About The Salvation Army
The Salvation Army has been serving in Dane County for 130 years. Those in need receive assistance through the broadest array of social services that range from providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the differently-abled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children. 88 cents of every dollar The Salvation Army spends is used to support those services in 5,000 communities nationwide.
