The Salvation Army Teams Up with Walmart to “Stuff the Bus”

Jul 30, 2021

The back-to-school season can place a tremendous burden on families experiencing lost wages and looming evictions, as they are forced to choose between putting food on the table or making sure their kids have the tools needed for educational success.

To meet the need, The Salvation Army Capital Area Command is collaborating with Walmart to collect school supplies for local children in need during the annual Stuff the Bus event on Friday, August 6 to Sunday, August 8 at three Walmart stores in Dane County:

- 7202 Watts Rd, Madison

- 1905 Mccoy Rd, Sun Prairie

- 2151 Royal Ave, Monona

Shoppers can purchase and drop off items at collection boxes at the front of each store. All school supplies are appreciated, but backpacks, colored pencils, pencils, highlighters, and notecards are a great place to start.

“Every year, we’re met with more and more families who could use a little back to school support,” says Major Melissa Shiels. “We’re looking forward to collaborating with Walmart to help get children in our community ready for school this fall,”.

With children returning to the classroom after the pandemic, school supplies will be critical to helping them prepare and succeed. All supplies will be distributed to families in Dane County to help local children enter the school year confidently.

Walmart and The Salvation Army have partnered for more than 30 years to meet community needs through a range of social services, helping individuals and families overcome poverty and economic hardships.
