Help ease the financial burden of the holidays.

Every year many parents in the Des Moines metro are forced to choose between paying monthly bills and buying Christmas gifts for their children. You can help.

The holiday season offers even more opportunities to give.

The sight of our red kettles and the sound of ringing bells are a reminder that as we celebrate the birth of Christ, we are called to care for our neighbors in need. The Salvation Army of Des Moines offers a number of seasonal programs that meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of individuals and families.

Here are a few ways you can partner with The Salvation Army of Des Moines to help bridge the gap for people in need this holiday season.

Red Kettle Bell Ringing

A large percentage of the funding that supports The Salvation Army’s human needs programs in the Des Moines metro comes directly from donations to our iconic red kettles during the holiday season. Bell ringing for The Salvation Army is a great way to celebrate Christmas and make a lasting impact on your community at the same time. Sign up to Register to Ring at a location in Des Moines today!

Angel Tree

Each year dozens of businesses in the Des Moines Area serve as Angel Tree locations to ensure that thousands of children have gifts to open on Christmas Day. Donors can pick a tag with a child’s age, gender and suggested gift item, purchase a gift. The unwrapped gift can then be returned to the Angel Tree location or our Clive office at 1400 NW 100th St, Clive IA. Toys will be distributed Dec. 18th & 19th. Help make the holiday special for a child in need - Email Jacob Bergesen at jacob.bergesen@usc.salvationarmy for more information or to get gift tags for your Angel Tree. Toys can also be purchased through our Wal-Mart Registry For Good at Des Moines Registry For Good.

Virtual Red Kettle Campaign

If you can’t get out of the office, don’t worry! You can host a virtual Red Kettle campaign with your company or organization during the Christmas season. We set up a special donation page just for you with personalized messaging and focus for the donated funds. This virtual Red Kettle campaign is a great tool to engage your employees, vendors, and partners in the holiday giving season in a way that allows them to see an immediate impact in our community. Social media is a great way to spread this fundraising campaign. Ask us how to tie the campaign to our Angel Tree or Chamber Challenge! Call Tamyra Harrison at 515-282-3599 or email tamyra.harrison@usc.salvationarmy.org to sign-up or for more information.

Adpot-A-Family

We’ll match you with a family in need that signs up for our Toy Shop to ensure there are gifts under the tree and food on the table for Christmas. Email Emma Haney at emma.haney@usc.salvationarmy.org to sign up and sponsor a family.

Chamber Challenge

Participate in the Chamber Challenge and join in a long-standing holiday tradition - Ringing the bell at a Salvation Army Kettle! Pick a kettle location and day, cover volunteer shifts, share a virtual kettle link and QR code internally, and offer a match for the total raised. Call Tamyra Harrison at 515-282-3599 or email tamyra.harrison@usc.salvationarmy.org to sign-up or for more information. Awards for the most raised in each chamber, and a Chamber Challenge Champion raising the most overall during the holiday season (November 8 – December 24), will be honored at our 2025 Spirit of Christmas Award Luncheon on January 22, 2025 at Events Center West from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM.

Toyshop

Christmas assistance sign-ups are now done online at saangeltree.org October 14 - November 15. The 2024 Christmas Toy Shop will distribute toys and food to families who have a confirmed appointment with a designated pick-up time on December 18 or 19, 2024.
