Our stimulating social programs and compassionate care
provide connection and community.
Because they often live alone or have limited mobility, older adults are often among the most socially isolated.
Many experts compare the health risks of loneliness to those of obesity and smoking. While it's just as dangerous, it's far less discussed. From enjoying a meal or a game of cards to receiving a community care ministry visit when they are homebound or hospitalized, older adults benefit from numerous opportunities to connect with others in meaningful ways.
We offer programs specifically designed to meet the social needs of older adults in Des Moines including:
JOY (Just Older Youth) Fellowship Group
JOY meets the first and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 10 a.m. for games, crafts, outings, snacks and fellowship.
Community Care Ministry
Many older adults who are homebound, hospitalized or in a nursing care facility feel particularly isolated, lonely or neglected. That's why we make personal visits through our community care ministry to offer encouragement and friendship to those in need as well as special visits during the Easter and Christmas seasons.
