Salvation Army Family Thrift Stores to Reopen
The Salvation Army will reopen Family Thrift Stores in four northern Michigan locations beginning Memorial Day, Monday, May 25. The stores have been closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic since March 16, 2020.
The stores in Gaylord, Cheboygan, Alpena and Houghton Lake will open for shopping from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Memorial Day. Donations will also be accepted at each location beginning at 9 a.m. on Memorial Day. The stores will continue to accept donations from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Saturday, May 30. However, shopping at the stores will be suspended Tuesday and Wednesday, May 26 and May 27, to enable store managers to review and adjust their operations as appropriate. The stores will reopen to shopping on Thursday, May 28.
Although these selected stores are reopening, the stores will continue to closely follow safety recommendations set forth by Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and encourage shoppers and those dropping off donations do the same.
“The Salvation Army wants to protect the safety and wellbeing of not only our employees, but our dedicated thrift store shoppers as well,” said Lt. Col. John E. Turner, divisional commander of The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division. “We want everyone to stay healthy and reduce the risk of further spreading the COVID-19 virus.”
