Serving Up Hope
Why Pickleball?
With over 36 million people reportedly playing pickleball between 2021 and 2022 it's easy to see how a sport as popular and influential as pickleball would have a devoted following, but also community members that are passionate about the sport. We want to draw from this amazing sport to help connect community members to something WE are passionate about here at The Salvation Army....our Pathway of Hope program! What is Pathway of Hope? It's a program that walks with families through life and gives them a hand UP rather than a handout.
Why get involved? What's Important about Pathway of Hope?
There are hundreds of families suffering from intergenerational poverty in Evansville. Intergenerational poverty is a curse that has plagued many families and has established certain financial habits and decision-making as "normals" for the children of the families as they grow up. Some families have reached a breaking point where they don't want to struggle anymore, and they are looking for a way out of what they've always done. These families who are ready for change and ready to put in the work are the families Pathway of Hope is designed to help. Our caseworkers work with the family and let them establish their own goals and vision for a better future, and we help them accomplish those goals. We don't assume what's best for them, but instead teach them how to use the skills, knowledge, and resources available to them in order to overcome the barriers in between them and self-sufficiency. Pathway of Hope EMPOWERS the family to be the change in their lives and give them HOPE for a brighter future. A Pathway of Hope.
