Community Service FAQ's

Am I able to complete community service at the Salvation Army?
Yes

Can I just show up and begin working?
Unfortunately, no. Due to policies put in place, you will need to come in to our offices Mon-Thurs from 9am - 3:30 pm and Friday from 9 am - 1:30 pm and fill out an application that includes a background check.

How long does it take to find out if I'm approved to serve?
Once your application packet is filled out, it will be submitted to our headquarters to be processed. It could take up to two weeks for this to happen. This gets even long during the holiday season due to backlog that can form. It is for this reason, we suggest you fill out your application as soon as possible.

How do I find out if I'm approved?
Once the results are returned to our volunteer coordinator, they will reach out using the contact information provided. It is at that time that a time to start your service will be communicated if you have been approved. If you don't hear back, please reach out by called 812-202-5133 as it is possible the contact information has changed or may have been wrong.

What if I'm not approved? Am I able to find out why? What are my options?
If you're not approved, then unfortunately we aren't able to allow you to serve on property. We are also not given the reason for the denial. The only options are to look elsewhere for places to complete that service
