The Salvation Army Kicks Off $7.8 Million Red Kettle Campaign Before City of Detroit Tree Lighting
WHAT: The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit will officially kick-off its 2010 Red Kettle Campaign with a festive ceremony at Campus Martius Park in Detroit on Friday, Nov. 19. The ceremony marks the fifth year the nonprofit has combined the start of its 119-year red kettle tradition with the annual lighting of the city of Detroit's holiday tree.
All day on Nov. 19, new community partner Quicken Loans will also match each donation given at metro Detroit kettle sites, up to $25,000.
The Salvation Army's red kettles are stationed at more than 350 locations throughout Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. Red Kettle locations include retailers and businesses such as Kroger, Walmart, Macy's, Sam's Club, JCPenney, ACO Hardware and Walgreens among others. Donations will be collected at Red Kettles through Thursday, Dec. 24. Contributions also can be made by calling 877-SAL-MICH or given online at www.salmich.org until Jan. 31, 2010.
The Salvation Army will host family fun activities for children in the Winter Magic Pavilion located in Cadillac Square. Activities begin at 5 p.m. and continue through 9 p.m.
