Red Kettle in the News!
with basic needs like food and shelter, not just a better Christmas time.
WJBK Fox 2 News morning recently uncovered some sobering statistics that will make your donation that much more important. Child poverty shot up to 28% from 2005-2011. Kids qualifying for food assistance rose to 55%. Confirmed victims linked to abuse or neglect increased 28%. The poverty level is considered equal to a family on an $18,000 a year budget or less. The author of the study says high unemployment and cuts in social services
are to blame for the harmful effects of child poverty. The Salvation Army has several programs that rely on the generosity of donors, all proactively fighting these staggering trends.
An average family of four affected by these economic times would have to live with limited food and shelter. The Army also uses the money to aid in clothing distribution, employment assistance, help with utilities, mortgage and rent; we will continue to help those with all the resources we have.
Anyone looking to help partner with The Salvation Army to combat these epidemic and give hope, consider making a donation can call 877-salmich or
