Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger® Food Drive Collects Over 15 Tons of Food, Fills Salvation Army Pantries
This year’s Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger® Food Drive took place on Saturday, May 11. The Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger® Food Drive is an outgrowth of the National Association of Letter Carriers’ tradition of community service, a tradition exhibited repeatedly by members of the letter carriers’ union over the years. All food collected goes directly to local food banks and pantries in our communities.
6 Salvation Army food pantries throughout the Metro Detroit area received over 15 tons of food in total. Salvation Army Corps to receive food were Downriver Wyandotte, Dearborn Heights, Plymouth, Farmington Hills, and Royal Oak. This food will feed people who are hungry - people who are homeless, or individuals who simply need help stretching food resources in their homes from week to week.
The Royal Oak Corps received nearly 15 tons of food which will likely keep the food pantry full for the year. This event brought together Salvation Army supporters and volunteers, as well as community members who support our work.
Not only did community members come out to help, corporate partners continued into the week to help organize and store the food. On Monday, May 20, Continental Automotive, Inc., Viacom, and AT&T came out in full force for a one day event to finish organizing the pantry. We are so grateful for partnerships with companies who encourage employees to volunteer for community service.
God bless the Letter Carriers, the volunteers, and those who will benefit from a full food panty in the coming year
