The Blessing of Volunteers

Apr 19, 2022

With the end of Lent comes the bright renewal of Spring and the feeling of joy. Brought upon by Easter, this time is the perfect chance to celebrate one of the largest blessings seen across all Salvation Army communities - our volunteers!

More than the refreshment of Easter bliss, we rejoice at this time because it is National Volunteer Appreciation Week. The dedicated individuals who aid our mission all year long are given deep gratitude throughout this week because without their work, our mission could not impact so many lives locally. To honor them, our Heartland Division Salvation Army units are hosting their own awards, dinners and other creative efforts that aim to recognize volunteers and say 'Thank You'.

The theme of this year's National Volunteer Appreciation Week is Empathy and we believe that  Salvation Army volunteers embody this more than anyone! Every volunteer who helps our mission is directly meeting local neighbors in need. Our services and programs are able to help feed, shelter, guide and love thanks to our volunteers. This is why they are treasured and celebrated for helping to bring our mission to life...

  • We thank all of the individuals who choose how they make a difference
    • Whether that is at our Christmas Red Kettles, as an Emergency Disaster Service team member, or by redefining what volunteering can mean and creating their own way to support The Salvation Army.
  • We thank local business and neighboring organizations who volunteer their time and resources to partner with The Salvation Army
    • Whether they are connecting employees to help carry out our local services, offering their venues / equipment for our events, or by simply being a steward of our mission and spreading the word about our work.

Help us to give thanks to the volunteers who serve your community by giving a shoutout on Facebook to someone you know who gives their time as a volunteer (don't forget to tag your local Salvation Army). Also, you can join in our celebration of volunteers by finding your Salvation Army's appreciation event. Share the event with friends and family and go online to discover what volunteer opportunities are available for you to join those we are recognizing this year!
