25th Anniversary WIBC Radiothon Sets New Fundraising Record
For the past 25 years, 93.1FM WIBC has partnered with The Salvation Army to raise money for various programs helping families in need across central Indiana by hosting an annual Radiothon. This year the WIBC Radiothon celebrated its 25th Anniversary broadcast with record-breaking results on December 13 – 14. After 36 hours of live fundraising, the Smith Family Toteboard showed a total of $316,628.90 pledged by listeners and supporters.
These donations will help fund programs at a number of central Indiana facilities, including:
- The Ruth Lilly Women & Children’s Center, a shelter to help individuals and families facing homelessness, domestic violence, and human trafficking
- The Indianapolis Harbor Light Center, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility on the west side that includes medical detox, residential treatment, out-patient treatment, and coursework designed to help consumers (clients) become better parents, employees, and citizens
- The Eagle Creek Corps Community Center, a place that offers local families youth sports and performing arts programs, a food pantry, emergency assistance, and Sunday worship and fellowship opportunities
- The Fountain Square Corps Community Center, a center with an active youth basketball league, day camp, creative arts programs, a food pantry, emergency assistance, and Sunday worship and fellowship
New this year, the WIBC Radiothon was broadcast from Sullivan Hardware and Garden at Keystone Avenue and 71st Street on Indianapolis’ north side. Local media personalities and WIBC host who joined us in the spirit of giving included Tony Katz, Terri Stacy, Hammer & Nigel, the Chicks on the Right, Mel McMahon, and Pat Sullivan & Denny Smith. Several local musical groups were also featured throughout the Radiothon, including Basement Brass, Re Alissa, and the Carmel Middle School “Class Act” choir. Each group brought their own unique sound and helped spread Christmas cheer to people on-site at Sullivan’s, as well as people tuning in to the broadcast on-air.

Thank you to the WIBC Radiothon title sponsor, FasTrack Plumbing, Heating, and Air Conditioning and to our phone bank sponsor, Kroger, for returning for the 25th Anniversary production. We would also like to thank all of the local businesses and organizations who donated funding and time to help us do the most good for people across central Indiana. Because of their generosity, along with the generosity of our hourly sponsors, the WIBC Radiothon was a success! We are able to help more Hoosier families because of donors and community members like these. Many thanks also to the volunteers that manned the phone bank, rang bells, and helped the WIBC and Salvation Army staff.
