Indiana - National Salvation Army Week will be celebrated in a wide variety of ways across the United States May 13-19, 2019, including many special activities in communities across Indiana. National Salvation Army Week was first declared in 1954 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, who stated that, "Among Americans, The Salvation Army has long been a symbol of wholehearted dedication to the cause of brotherhood." Here's just a sampling of how The Salvation Army is making National Salvation Army Week special for Hoosiers across the state: - Columbus: The Salvation Army is hosting "Making a Difference in Columbus IN Since 1891" in the Courtyard of the Columbus Historical Center at 524 3rd Street on Thursday, May 16 from 4 to 6 PM. Led by the local Salvation Army Advisory Board and Women's Ministries team, this event is an opportunity for the public to learn more about the history of The Salvation Army in Columbus while enjoying some delicious food and great fellowship. - Madison: In partnership with Eutherian College and ITVAP, The Salvation Army is hosting "Seeing Slavery - Rekindling the Abolitionist Spirit" May 10-17. (Facebook Event LINK) It is also highlighting the artistic and musical talents of the youth in the Madison community with its Fine Arts Spring Recital on Thursday, May 16 at The Salvation Army at 331 E. - Bloomington: The Salvation Army is hosting its 39th Annual Dinner & Live Auction on Saturday, May 18 from 4:30 to 8:30 PM at the corps community center at 111 N. Rogers Street. This fundraiser helps to support youth and family programs throughout the year.
- New Albany: A special Volunteer Luncheon is set for Tuesday, May 14 to recognize the hundreds of individuals and numerous organizations that make The Salvation Army's ministry possible in the southern Indiana.
- Indianapolis: The Salvation Army of Central Indiana is hosting its Golf 4 Kids Outing at Brickyard Crossing on Wednesday, May 15. This fundraiser supports Hidden Falls Camp in Bedford, IN, where children in need from across Indiana get to experience the wonder of summer camp on 706 rolling acres of southern Indiana fields and forests. - Lafayette: Locals get a special look at addiction services provided by The Salvation Army's Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) with a program at 1110 Union Street from 6 to 8 PM. Local leaders from addiction treatment organizations will be on hand to answer questions and share a vision of hope for Tippecanoe County. (Facebook Event LINK)
- Marion: The Salvation Army is officially kicking off a year-long celebration of 120 years in Marion on Monday, then following up with a Volunteer Appreciation Dinner on Tuesday, May 14.
