Sharing Christmas Blessings
Volunteers worked for hours assembling 187 special Blessing Bags for individuals and families in need of a little extra cheer this holiday season. Funded by a gift from an anonymous donor, the reusable tote bags contained a variety of helpful items, including a new towel and washcloth, a soup bowl and handmade cozy, and easy to prepare soup for a chilly winter night.
Eighty-nine of the filled Blessing Bags were delivered to the Barton Center and Carpenter Apartments, residential facilities located on The Salvation Army's Block of Hope in downtown Indianapolis. Residents here include both families and individuals who are in need of a low-income housing option that comes with access to social services. The Salvation Army provides special care for residents and help them to become more financially stable and independent.
Another 45 Blessings Bags headed to Richmond, Indiana to The Salvation Army's 360 Life Center. Major Bill Welch plans to use the bags as part of The Salvation Army's ministry to Richmond's homeless population, as well as providing them to families who visit the weekly food pantry at the 360 Life Center.
The Salvation Army's 360 Life Center in Logansport, IN distributed 30 Blessings Bags to veterans at its Veterans Holiday Dinner earlier this week. The event, which was free to the public, was a way to thank local veterans for their service to the country and to show them that they are loved and remembered this holiday season.
Seniors often struggle with loneliness during the holidays, so another 22 Blessings Bags were delivered to residents of The Salvation Army's Booth Manor senior residence in Columbus, IN. This facility houses seniors living with fixed incomes and is located adjacent to The Salvation Army of Columbus Corps Community Center, where regular programs and activities help to keep the Booth Manor residents active and engaged.
Many thanks to the donor, volunteers, and delivery drivers who made this special Christmas Blessing Bags ministry possible! See photos from the packing of these and other Blessing Bags this December HERE.
