Welcome Lieutenant Obed Briceno
Lieutenant Obed Briceno, a newly commissioned Salvation Army officer, shares his remarkable journey from Venezuela to the United States and his excitement about serving in Indiana. As a cadet, he completed his training at the College For Officers Training near the Chicago Cubs Stadium, even though he admits he is not a Cubs fan. Originally from Venezuela, Officer Obed's introduction to The Salvation Army came through his uncle, Captain Pedro Arias, during a two-week visit to the Irving Park Corps in the Metro Division. With a passion for music and craftsmanship, Officer Obed brings his talent as a drummer and guitarist to his ministry. He is a versatile individual who is unafraid to utilize various tools and engage in creative crafts. Technologically adept and fluent in Spanish, Officer Obed possesses a unique skill set that enhances his ability to connect with others.
Moving to Indiana marks an exciting new chapter for Officer Obed. Despite the unfamiliarity, he embraces the opportunity to embark on a fresh ministry journey in an unknown environment. He eagerly anticipates the challenges that lie ahead and feels blessed to be close to the lake, as he derives joy and solace from its presence. When asked about his favorite scripture especially during this new time in his life, Officer Obed shares with us Joshua 1:9. Joshua 1:9 says, "This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go," holds profound significance in his life. Officer Obed mentions to us that each encounter with this scripture reveals new layers of meaning, providing guidance and strength during times of adversity.
Officer Obed's journey exemplifies unwavering faith, adaptability, and a willingness to embrace new beginnings.
