Welcome Center Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Apr 26, 2018 | by Katherine Basaran

The Salvation Army Harbor Light Center celebrated a ribbon cutting ceremony to reveal the newly renovated Welcome Center on April 25, 2018.

The Harbor Light Center offers addiction treatment options, including detox, residential treatment, transitional housing, and an intensive outpatient program to people in need. The Welcome Center is the south end of the facility where intake of new patients occurs. This remodeling project was started with the goal of streamlining the admission process and cutting down on the amount of contraband that enters the facility. The Welcome Center was designed with security in mind, but items were selected with the goal of providing a calm, safe, and home-like environment for everyone who walks through the doors.

“The updated Welcome Center has provided a greater feeling of safety and security for all, says Major K.K. Mathews, Administrator of the Harbor Light Center. “It has even improved our staff’s outlook on client intakes.  The staff has become even more diligent in their efforts to provide a safe environment for recovery.”

The ribbon cutting ceremony was a special event for the Harbor Light Center. It was a great opportunity to thank the hard work and dedication of the staff, construction crews and the generous donors who made the renovation possible.

Many prominent members of the community were able to participate in this exciting reveal, including Angela Smith-Jones, Deputy Mayor of Economic Development for the City of Indianapolis. Deputy Mayor Smith-Jones presented and also officially cut the ribbon with Major Katrina Mathews. Andrew Kossack, the Indiana State Director for Senator Young and Megan Sims, the District Director for Congressman Andre Carson’s office, were also in attendance. Each spoke to the audience about the community’s support of The Salvation Army Harbor Light Center.  We are very grateful for their participation and understand that without the community and its leader’s involvement we would not be able to continue to do the most good in Indiana.
